Nearly there

Hello! If you're still here - thanks for waiting! (and sorry about the thick layer of dust that has accumulated on my blog pages while I've been gone. I do hope none of you have allergies. If so, do please feel free to sneeze quietly in a corner.)

So, as I have been chained to a desk for the past few weeks, I'm afraid the only thing I have created recently, and can therefore show you a picture of, is this:

Two shiny copies of my dissertation, printed and bound and ready for the off on Thursday. It kind of does what it says on the tin. I'd share more of it, if only it was a bit more interesting. I wish I had degree stuff that was as amazing and visually-shareable as Gina's stunning work. But I don't. I do have quite a nice map in appendix K, but other than that - fairly bland.

But the main thing is that it is done, all 17,500 words of it (or 25,000 including the appendices, or 25million including all the thousands of drafts I made, and the bizarre notes I left for myself on iddy biddy bits of paper). And now all I have to do is:
  1. make sure it doesn't spontaneously combust before Thursday, and
  2. try to stop worrying that I've accidentally typed a really rude swear word on page seven. Which is fairly unlikely, but you never know.
Blimey, though, I have new-found respect for authors - how anybody writes entire books is beyond me. I know I couldn't write that much. Although some of you may find that hard to believe after ploughing through some of my more rambling blog posts ;o)

And on that note, I think I'd better shut up :o)

Might go and check page seven again, just to be on the safe side...

Hurrah! Well done on finishing that mammoth task! I particularly like it's catchy title and can't wait until it hits the shops.

And don't worry about your blog .... while you were gone I kept it spick and span by waving a duster round now and again ..... bah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha - I crack myself up sometimes ....

ps. I simply can't believe you typed that word on page 7!

Well done on finishing the darned thing - I do admire you.

Did you knit the map in Appendix K?

Just asking. x

Hurrah! Huzzah! And a jolly big cheer all round.

Nothing beats that feeling of finishing your dissertation and having it sitting looking all pretty and lovely. Well done you,

(Btw it was pg eleventy seven!)

Woooooohoooooooooooooooooo!!!! Well done VC and welcome back to the 'real' world!!!!!!!!!!!

You have been sorely missed whilst writing your hefty tome. I can hardly wait to see what you get up to now that the D is done!

I'm trying to see just how many exclamation marks I can squeeze into one rather flacid comment!!!!

Hooray! Bye bye evil dissertation. Just out of interest- what's it about?

Double Hooray!!!! (as there are two copies)

So fabby that you have finished - can't wait to see you back in blogland again!

Love the title - but will they mind getting a dissertation written by a vicious chicken?

Well done VC!!

I can just about remember (if I have perfect quiet and think really, really hard) back to writing my disseration (it's been a while ;)) and I remember obsessing for ages after I'd had it bound about what mistakes were in there. I'd suggest sticking it in an envelope and under the mattress - if you're tempted to re-read there's a chance you might find something don't want to see ;)

Well done - that word is on page 9 not 7 - or are there two?

Well done on getting that finished - tons of admiration. My next module is all essay based so although I can have pictures there won't be any exciting stuff!

Congratulations on completing your magnum opus! I'm with you - I enjoy having finished writing, but I don't enjoy the process of writing. I finished my M.Phil. thesis at 11pm the night before it was due and spent the next 10 hours hand-feeding single sheets of paper through my stupid portable dot matrix printer, which was the only thing I had brought with me to England, to print out the copies for submission. I found the fact that there were no 24hour print shops anywhere in Brighton _completely_ uncivilized (and uncivilised). Anyway, huzzah to you and well done!
