Just a quick post to share with you the ground-breaking new item I knitted up last night.....
Are you ready?
OK, then. I give you:
Obviously, it may have been better if I'd waited until I could have sourced yarn in a blonder shade..... but I was just TOO EXCITED about my new project to wait, so I knitted it with whatever I could find.
It's going to be the key piece in my forthcoming "Instant Whiskers" collection, and I think it's pretty snazzy, even with the colour-mismatch. I'll be quite the knittist-about-town with this strapped to my chops.
....... OK, OK, that last bit may have been a bit of a fib. You don't need to worry that I've finally gone right off my trolley.
I have, in fact, knitted this for a sane(ish) reason: I'm putting together a Viking costume, and felt that a beard was a key component. Because what self-respecting Norseman would be seen dead at a party without the adornment of some impressive face-furniture? None! Exactly. So, there you go: perfectly sane, after all.
Now, does anyone know where I can get a knitting pattern for an axe......? ;o)

Sorry .... now that I've wiped the tears from my cheeks, what I meant to say was - brilliant beard there, VC, and sorry, I have no clue about the axe. I'm sure somewhere on the internets there is such a pattern though.
And please be sure to post the complete ensemble for our delight and delectation.
I promise not to laugh ....
:)
Quite fetching your beard :D LOL. Sorry, can't help with the axe pattern either... I'm knitting a gun at the moment but that's not very viking-y, I'm afraid. Lol.
~x~
I'm just flabbergasted that you really have knitted a beard! I thought it was going to turn out to be a rearranged fluffy monkee limb or torso! Good luck with the axe (I think!!!!)
I LOVE your beard!!! I have a knitting pattern for an Elvis wig...did Vikings have quiffs?
Ooooh, I could do with one of those! No.2 is to be Mr Brown in 'The Pied Piper of Hamlyn' next week and came home on Friday saying he needed a beard and moustache! Sadly, I lack your powers of invention and went on eBay. *blush*
I was actually rather relieved to read you'd knitted that face furniture. I was about to get your address and send you a major consignment of Veet (and I'm not sure the one for sensitive skin would've done the job).
Fabulous post. x
PS Word verification = cellutkg (is that when someone's got a heavy amount of cellulite?)
would it be odd to admit that i quite like the beard.......
as for the axe
no idea

crying...............too much.............to..............comment....................................................................
ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
So so sane :)
Oh! I feel an absolutely essential item of uniform for the Blogging Women's Army (Crafting Division) coming on!
Perhaps you could look at regimental colours? Or perhaps just colours without the 'regi' - it would go with the rest of the concept?
Also once you have a pattern for the axe surely it wouldn't take much to turn it into the arms of choice for the B.W.A. (Cr.Div)!
We salute your takent and skill V.C.
I LOOOVVVVEEE IT! Vickie Howell's New Knits on the Block has a Viking costume pattern (for kids, but I figure an axe ought to be one size fits all, no?). I just checked it though - sigh, no axe. I'm sure that the two Norsemen with whom I live (okay, one of them is only 1/2 Norse and he looks more like me, but still) would approve...
Now that I've had some sleep, it occurs to me to ask - why do you need a Viking costume? Inquiring minds want to know.
Oh. So. Yukon Cornelius! LOVE IT!!

It's hilarious! Thanks for commenting on my blog, please come back!
