Putting it to the vote

I need your help, guys. I have a dilemma - it's about the monkey. (And no, it's not "how can I come up with a feasible excuse for keeping him after all?". But do let me know if you have any good suggestions on that front.)

It's not a big matter, but I'm feeling indecisive, and I want to get it right. My question for you is this: how does one wrap a monkey-shaped gift?

The thing is, I think the bride may have an inkling of what her present is, but I'm not sure. So, I can't decide whether to:

a) try to disguise the gift completely by concealing the monkey inside a cardboard box and wrapping that,

or

b) spend ages wrapping different parts of the monkey indidually, so that I end up with an obviously monkey-shaped parcel.

I'm quite drawn to option b) because I would find this amusing - but then again, the gift isn't for me (sadly). Also, it would take a long time to achieve, and if the recipient hasn't guessed what her gift is yet, it would ruin the surprise.

Dithering. Isn't it great?

So anyway, if you fancy voicing your opinion, just leave a comment voting for the option that most matches you own view, choosing from the following list:

a) monkey in box
b) monkey-shaped parcel
c) some other wrapping method not yet considered (please give details, including diagrams where appropriate)
d) why is this blog post so rubbish?

Many thanks in anticipation of your help in this matter. VCx

Well, I'm glad you asked. Because I know EXACTLY how to pack a monkey.

But I'm not going to tell you.

For true enlightenment you'll have to go to my blog and the entry on Wednesday May 23. There will be scrolling involved. Lots of scrolling.

The entry is subtitled "Hippo Birdy 2 Ewes ..... and 1 Monkey" and will show you that there is only ONE way to properly pack a monkey.

On the way down please be sure to stop at Tuesday May 29 where you will find photographic instructions on how to open a gift of monkey, should your friend need any help or advice.

Incidentally. The very fact that you don't already know how to pack a monkey leads me to the obvious conclusion that you haven't been studying my archives. This saddens me greatly. I've been in this with you since the beginning. Cheers mate.

Oops. I seem to have used up all your comments space thereby leaving no room for any other commenters. Oh dear. What a pity. Never mind.

No, No, NO! Monkee Maker.

All presents should be cased in fabulous wrapping. I'm going for the box option, with ribbons, bows and furbelows.

p.s. although I have to say MM, having been through your archives (she says archly) I do love how you wrap your monkey.

(I also hate apologising).

But look! On a happier note, I didn't use up all of your comment space!

Oh, and Trashalou is indeed correct. Lashings of lovely paper and ribbon is good. Not too sure what the fur should go below though so I'd best not comment on that :)

Why not do both a and b? Wrap monkey up in lots of individual bits of paper so ensuring a monkey shaped parcel (thereby pleasing your inner self) then put said monkey in a big box and wrap that up in pretty paper with lots of ribbons and bows. You could even wrap it up 'pass the parcel' style with lots of layers and either a forfeit or a sweet between each layer. This sounds the best option to me as you obviously have far too much time on your hands and need something to do.

I could always let you know how Vera is wrapped when she arrives...

No pressure there then Monkee Maker!!!!

I'd rather not talk about the cake situation thanks.

Suffice it to say that I am bereft. Of both cake and monkee.

Good luck with your hand-over tonight. Remember you do actually have to let it go and not play some tragic game of tug-of-monkey. Although that would be quite funny.
